Flip chart for sorting our communities.  On the outside flap, the students draw each picture to represents our community.  On the inside flap, they sort the different items and glue them under the corresponding flap of Government, Education, Recreation, Communication, and Transportation.

Place value

I am using Styrofoam cups to teach place value. This way the students can manipulate the cups for expanded forms as well.

Fraction

I'm planning to use this website for our animals study.  They have kid friendly games and videos.  Great resource!

Perimeter Song

Perimeter Song:
(I found this on pinterest)

(The Farmer and The Dell)

Perimeter is around
Perimeter is around
Hi, Ho, don't you know
Perimeter is around

You add up all the sides
You add up all the sides
Hi, Ho, don't you know
You add up all the sides

I also use "Who Let the dog out" for perimeter as well.  The students would draw a "puppy" in the middle of the shape.  The students are building fences around to keep their dog inside.  If they miss added, we would sing "who let the dog out" (everyone point) "you, you, you, you!"

Great way to have students follow along with the book.

I thought it was a cute idea to teach telling time.

I'm going to use Mr. Pototo Head for my classroom management.  We will start off the week with an empty potato head.  Everytime the students are on task, we will add a piece to him.  The pieces can come and go according to their behavior.  Once he is completely put together, we can have popcorn and a movie during their lunch time or some types of whole group rewards.  It could take three weeks to put him together or it could take only a week.  This is only whole group incentive.
